![]() ![]() They suck for pedaling and some are weak for doing other things. I wanted a good all around bike but it seems some bikes are only good for going down hill. ![]() I used to check out that website but I soon found out that mountain bikes are very specialized. craigslist and ebay are super good, you can try (a forum like this). Santa Cruz - try an older heckler-or a superlight, a blur could even be had for cheap i recommmend full suspension, 4 or 5" of travel.įor a grand.go used but lightly abused. trying to pick a mtn bike must be even harder having so many brands to choose from.Īt 6'3 you need a large or xl frame. Its hard to enough to pick a new 450 with 5 manuf. I have an old Litespeed Classic from '01 that i took out a few days ago - it is in the 18 pound range - just riding it, i couldnt believe that beautiful bike is now considered "obsolete" - weird Of course 10 years ago, an 18-19 lb bike was pretty dang light, and now 18-19 lbs is a porker. The ratio is normally 2 practice days and one race day - gate fees around here are 10 bucks and entry fees range from 10 to 25 bucks on race day - depending on whats going on.Įntry fees at a USAC sanctioned crit or track race are usually 15 bucks as well - so now that i break it down a bit more, i suppose cycling is cheaper - marginally, its just insane the parts cost now - the new Dura Ace gruppo is 4k □ and nice tubulars (the only way to fly for a road race bike) are super high - and wheelsets? They cost as much as a really nice complete bike did 10 years ago. I might get out and ride my dirt bike 2 -3 times a month if i'm lucky. still small, i'll support the smaller passionate guys before i send trek and the cannondale giant donkeys my money. are into building bikes because they love it. Small companies like turner, canfield, etc. you calll and usually you will get dave turner himself, a cool guy who doesnt mind talking to you about bikes.īig companies like trek specialized and giant are into making MONEY. Still ride to this day more hardcore than back then. Imo, trek is waaaaay to expensive, i think the margins on trek is pretty good. The reason that bike is so much money is because of the weight savings with carbon fiber and full xtr etc etc.Ī similiar bike with xt (xt is very good) and an aluminum frame would be half the 7k retail figure. If i moto 3 days a week it cost me 75.00 in gate fee's.Plus fuel for the bike and my truck.I ride my mtn bike and road bike 5-6 days a week for free. But then again my road bike(Scott addict) cost almost as much as my 450 and my mtn bike wasn't to fare behind. ![]() Obviously, being a high end bike doesnt prevent it from getting flats - LOL My motocross hobby is cheap compared to my cycling hobby - freakin tubular tires cost more than a Dunlop This bike was pretty high, but my Pinarello Prince road bike costs nearly twice as much - the only way i can justify it is i promised myself i would keep it at least 5 years before getting something else. (but like an MX bike, i had to have the shock re-valved and fork re-sprung for my weight when it was new)- bike is fine, but i would still like to replace it with a Blur carbon when i recover from my road bike purchase. After 3 years, i still can't detect any weaknesses in the bike for my use, which is more than i can say for any motocross bike i have ever had. We have been too focused on DH bikes - if you really want to start throwing money down the toilet, we need to get into high end XC and road bikes.Īlthough i purchased a Santa Cruz Superlight with full XTR kit in 2006 ( i wont mention the price) that has given me a ton of performance for 3 years. ![]()
